Not everyone starts off the day with the same amount of energy - or spoons. For sick and disabled people, beginning our routine with less spoons is made harder by each task costing us more effort than the average healthy person. Sometimes, just eating breakfast and brushing our teeth depleted all of the spoons we had for that day. 

A quick history: Writer Christine Miserandino coined the term “Spoon Theory” while she was trying to explain to a friend the challenges of her life with chronic illness and only had some spoons nearby to illustrate. The term resonated widely in the chronic illness and neurodivergent communities, leading to some dubbing themselves as “spoonies”.
